It’s the most wonderful time of the year! There’s Christmas trees and presents, lights and decorations, parties and cookies and all types of traditions to look forward to. In these days before the big day arrives, you’ll be scheduling parties and cleaning and making sure that your house looks just right for all the hosting you’ll be doing. If there’s one thing you don’t want to be worrying about, it’s a fireplace that smells and isn’t running as efficiently as it should be. That’s where Ceaser Chimney Service, LLC comes into the picture. For all the good people living in the Manchester, New Hampshire area, the qualified professionals at Ceaser Chimney Service are happy to supply the best service and any equipment you might need to make sure that your chimney is ready for a visit from all of your favorite people and that one special visitor, Santa Claus himself!
Why You Need That Sweeping
With all the business of the season, the last thing you want to be worrying about is the safety of your family and friends who are joining you to celebrate. One of the places that might cause difficulty is your chimney. One of the issues with using your fireplace is that it can cause a buildup of creosote to coat the inside of your chimney. When you burn a wood fire, moisture is released from the wood, no matter how long you’ve let it cure. The moisture, along with a variety of chemicals that are the byproduct of combustion, floats up the chimney in the form of smoke. As it hits the cool interior of your chimney, it condenses and forms a crusty layer called creosote. Creosote is highly flammable, and all it takes is a spark or floating ember to cause it to burst into flame and cause a dangerous chimney fire. But even if you have a gas fireplace, you may still have problems. Burning with gas can cause condensation to occur as well, and this caustic mix may have a corrosive effect on your chimney liner. This can cause your fireplace to burn less efficiently, and worse, it can cause carbon monoxide to sneak back into your home, causing serious health issues such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, or even loss of consciousness or death to occur.
But creosote and corrosion aren’t the only things that we’ll be looking for when you give Ceaser Chimney Service a call and let us come in and take care of your chimney inspection and sweeping. We’ll also be looking for any areas of leakage. One of the signs of this is loose or spongy ceiling times, peeling wallpaper, or brown water stains on the ceiling near your fireplace. Hopefully, you’ll have us in before these signs appear, and we’ll be on the lookout for any signs that you may be headed towards chimney leaks and take care of repairing them before they cause any damage to your home. We’ll check out your chimney flashing, your chimney cap, and your chimney crown and make sure that they are in a state of good repair so that those leaks don’t appear. If we notice that your chimney crown is cracked, your flashing is loose or torn, or your chimney cap is rusted or twisted, we’ll make the necessary repairs so that leaks can be stopped before they even begin!
Chimney Structure
We’ll also make sure that your chimney structure is sound. If the mortar between your bricks is soft, crumbly, or flaky, it probably needs to be replaced. This process is called tuckpointing, and it involves picking out the weak and crumbly mortar and replacing it with matching mortar. Although this sounds like it wouldn’t be a difficult process, it is a job that is much easier done with the proper tools and knowledge of what that mortar needs to look like and how to get it firmly between the bricks so that your chimney structure is solid. The professionals at Ceaser Chimney have a lot of experience and expertise when it comes to tuckpointing, and we’d love to make your chimney strong and secure.
